Oriundos de França, os Giesta Happy Bees (GHB) foram os voluntários de longa duração que mais tempo permaneceram connosco este ano.

As mensagens de despedida dos GHB:

Esta mensagem final assinala o término da nossa jornada de voluntariado com a MONTIS em Portugal. O Baptiste e o Hugo G. estiveram cá durante quatro meses, enquanto o Gabriel e o Hugo L. permaneceram cinco meses. A experiência que vivemos com a MONTIS foi extraordinária e de grande valor para todos nós. Aprendemos imenso ao colaborar e comunicar com os técnicos da MONTIS. Realizámos diversas tarefas, cada uma com os seus desafios e aprendizagens específicas, e estamos verdadeiramente satisfeitos com o que alcançámos. Agradecemos sinceramente à MONTIS por nos ter proporcionado esta magnífica oportunidade.

Hugo L.:

Estive 5 meses na MONTIS. Tive a oportunidade de conhecer diferentes propriedades, diferentes ecossistemas, diferentes problemas de conservação e diferentes tarefas. Vindo de uma formação técnica, sabia muito pouco sobre natureza, ecossistemas e engenharia florestal. Graças a esta experiência e aos técnicos, sairei da MONTIS com uma maior sensibilidade para os ambientes naturais, com um forte desejo de continuar a aprender muito sobre a natureza e a engenharia florestal, e com uma melhor compreensão de como funciona uma floresta e porque é que a conservação da natureza é útil.

Estou muito feliz por ter partilhado esta viagem com os meus amigos. Juntamente com eles, descobri que trabalhar na e para a natureza é muito gratificante, saudável e relaxante. Descobri que o trabalho que fazíamos com a MONTIS fazia muito sentido para mim, e eu floresci aqui.

Gabriel:

Estive em Portugal com a MONTIS durante 5 meses. Durante este período, tive a oportunidade de conhecer diferentes técnicos da MONTIS que me ensinaram muitas coisas sobre a natureza e como a conservar. Realizamos diferentes tarefas enquanto trabalhávamos em diferentes propriedades. Foi realmente interessante ver as nossas tarefas evoluirem, como as estações do ano e o clima, para acompanhar a recuperação natural da natureza.

Antes de vir para Portugal e para a MONTIS, queria muito experimentar trabalhar fora do escritório e realizar tarefas que não são lecionadas na minha escola. Agora que essa experiência terminou, sinto que compreendo muito melhor como funciona uma floresta e como funcionam os ecossistemas, e sinto também que é este o tipo de trabalho a que quero dedicar a minha vida. Alimentou a minha sensibilidade para com a natureza.

Esta grande experiência foi também partilhada com muitas pessoas: os meus amigos, os técnicos da MONTIS e toda a equipa da MONTIS e penso que estas pessoas tornaram esta viagem ainda melhor.

Baptiste:

Estes quatro meses foram muito enriquecedores. Estou muito feliz por ter tido a possibilidade de viver esta experiência neste país tão bonito que é Portugal. A experiência, que foi a primeira do género para mim, permitiu desenvolver-me a nível pessoal e profissional, pelo que estou muito grato. Esta experiência é uma nova porta para outras que espero viver nos próximos anos.

Trabalhar na área da conservação da natureza foi uma experiência inédita para mim. Nunca tinha trabalhado com atividades físicas antes. Por isso, foi muito interessante afastar-me do trabalho intelectual ligado à minha futura carreira como engenheiro. O trabalho físico foi uma grande descoberta, mas a relação com a natureza, especialmente com as florestas, foi ótima. Por isso, questionaram-me sobre o meu futuro profissional: se será possível conseguir conciliar o meu trabalho com a conservação da natureza.

Embora não ligue o meu futuro à conservação da natureza, estes quatro meses foram benéficos por muitos outros motivos: aprendi a ultrapassar condições de trabalho que nem sempre eram fáceis (o clima e as suas variações complicavam o nosso trabalho), com o tempo, aprendi a desenvolver a minha resiliência perante estas dificuldades.

Estou muito feliz por ter conhecido também muitas pessoas com quem fomos alunos e professores, mas, para além das relações durante o trabalho, foi muito enriquecedor conhecer e conviver com pessoas de todas as esfera. Gostaria também de agradecer aos coordenadores, com quem descobrimos muitas coisas sobre a floresta, as nossas tarefas e com quem passámos muitos momentos agradáveis.

Hugo G.:

Hoje é o meu último dia em Portugal. Os últimos 4 meses foram incríveis. Descobri um país e uma cultura (um grande destaque para o São João, o pastel de nata e a tosta mista). Descobri paisagens maravilhosas, especialmente em Deilão, que gostei imenso. Conheci pessoas novas, todas muito interessantes, e fiz novos amigos.

Trabalhar no campo foi uma experiência muito boa. Já tinha feito trabalho físico antes, mas estar tão próximo da natureza foi uma novidade — e gostei mesmo muito disso.

Plantar árvores foi gratificante, podá-las também, e trabalhar em Deilão foi a cereja no topo do bolo. Estávamos mais autónomos, tínhamos de tomar decisões, construir coisas por nós próprios — e adorei essa responsabilidade.

Perceber como a natureza funciona foi algo muito enriquecedor. Compreender como plantar árvores, onde e porquê. Estar tão próximo da biodiversidade foi o melhor de tudo. Adorei descobrir novas espécies e tirar fotografa-las.

E por último, mas não menos importante, as pessoas foram mesmo simpáticas. As pessoas com quem trabalhámos eram todas interessantes e muito acolhedoras. Também tivemos várias conversas com pessoas em cafés, restaurantes, etc... E sempre nos trataram com muita simpatia, mesmo quando não percebíamos tudo o que diziam :)

Posso dizer que estes últimos 4 meses foram verdadeiramente fantásticos, e que este foi o melhor estágio que já tive. No futuro, espero poder trabalhar mais nesta área. A natureza é linda, e foi um prazer enorme poder trabalhar com ela.

The farewell messages from the GHB team:

This final message marks the end of our journey with MONTIS in Portugal. Baptiste and Hugo G spent 4 months here, and Gabriel and Hugo L spent 5 months here. Our experience with MONTIS was amazing and very precious for all four of us. We learned a ton of things by working and by talking with MONTIS’ technicians Henrique, Ines and Guilherme. We did various tasks that all had their specific interests and learnings and we are happy about that. We all thank MONTIS for giving us this great opportunity.

Hugo L:

I spent 5 months with MONTIS. It gave me the opportunity to see different properties, different ecosystems, different problems and different tasks. Coming from a technical formation, I knew very few things about nature, ecosystems and forest engineering. Thanks to this experience and thanks to the technicians, I’ll leave MONTIS with a greater sensibility to natural environments, with a strong desire to keep learning a lot about nature and forest engineering, and with a better understanding of how a forest works and what can natural conservation be useful for.

I am very happy to have shared this journey with my friends. Alongside them, I’ve discovered that working in and for nature is very rewarding, healthy, and calming. I found out that the work we were doing with MONTIS made a lot of sense for me, and I’ve blossomed here.

Gabriel:

I was in Portugal with MONTIS for 5 months. During the period I had the chance to meet different technicians of MONTIS that taught me multiple things about nature and about how to conserve it. We did different tasks while working on different properties. It was really interesting to see our tasks evolving such as the seasons, the weather in order to follow nature’s natural way of recovering.

Before coming to Portugal with MONTIS, I deeply wanted to try working outside of an office and to try tasks that aren’t taught in my school. Now that this experience is over, I feel like I understand way better how a forest and an ecosystem is working and I also feel like this is the type of job I want to spend my life doing. It fed my sensitivity to nature.

This great experience was also shared with many people : my friends, MONTIS’ technicians and the whole MONTIS team and I think that those people made this trip even greater.

Baptiste:

These four months have been very enriching; I'm very happy to have had this experience in this beautiful country, Portugal. This experience, which was the first of its kind for me, allowed me to develop both personally and professionally, for which I am very grateful. This experience opens the door to others I hope to experience in the coming years.

Working in the field of nature conservation was a first for me; I had never done any physical work before. It was therefore very interesting for me to move away from the intellectual work associated with my future career as an engineer. The physical work was a wonderful discovery, but the relationship with nature, especially with the forests, was fantastic. The question arose about my future career, whether to succeed in linking my work with nature conservation.

Even though I don't ultimately link my future to nature conservation, these four months have been beneficial for many other reasons. In particular, I learned to overcome working conditions that weren't always easy. The weather and its fluctuations complicated our work, and over time, I learned to develop my resilience in the face of such challenges.

I'm very happy to have also met many people with whom I was a student and teacher. But beyond the relationships I developed during my work, it was very enriching to meet and interact with people from all walks of life. I would also like to thank the coordinators, with whom we learned many things about the forest and our work, and with whom we spent many good times.

Hugo G:

Today is my last day in Portugal. The last 4 months have been amazing. I discovered a country and a culture (big up to Sao Joao, pastel de nata and tosta mista). I discovered wonderfull landscapes, especially in Deilao, that I really enjoyed. I discovered new people, all really interesting, and I made new friends.

Working in the filed was really nice. I've already done physical work before, but being so close to nature was a first, and I really appreciated it.

Planting trees was nice, pruning trees was nice, and working in Deilao was icing on the cake. We were more autonomous, we had to take decisions, to build things ourselves, and I truly enjoyed that.

Understanding how nature works was enriching. Understanding how to plant trees, where, and why. Being up close to the biodiversity was the best part. I loved discovering new species and taking pictures of them.

Last but not least, the people were really kind. The people that we worked with were all interesting and nice. We also had conversation with people in cafés, in restaurant, etc... And every time people were really kind, even if we did not understood everything they were saying. :)

I would say that these last 4 months had been truly amazing, and that this was the best internship I had. In the future, I hope to work more in this kind of area. Nature is beautiful, and I was really happy to work with it.
