Segunda-feira / Monday
Hoje foi a vez do outro grupo trabalhar. Para os novos voluntários, foi a sua primeira experiência de debarking de acácias. Tiveram a oportunidade de se familiarizar com o terreno e com esta nova espécie invasora.
Mais tarde, durante o dia, a Juliana foi buscar a Estrellia e a Lola para uma sessão de compras! Devido a um mal-entendido, as bagagens das raparigas acabaram em Vouzela, pelo que ficaram sem roupa para o resto da semana.
Depois deste imprevisto, as raparigas juntaram-se aos outros voluntários franceses numa grande casa perto de Tortosendo, enquanto a Juliana foi para o hotel em Covilhã.
Today it was the other group's turn to work. For the new volunteers, it was their first acacia debarking experience. They were able to become familiar with the site and with this new invasive species.
Later in the day, Juliana came to pick up Estrellia and Lola for a shopping trip! Indeed, the girls' luggage ended up in Vouzela because of a misunderstanding, so they no longer had any clothes for the rest of the week.
After this unexpected event, the girls joined the other French volunteers in a large house near Tortosendo, and Juliana went to the hotel in Covilhã.
Terça-feira / Tuesday
Hoje, a equipa é composta pela Juliana, Estrellia, Lola, Julien e Glycienne. Avançámos bastante na parcela de acácias e o tempo está a começar a arrefecer. As condições de trabalho tornam-se mais suportáveis e o trabalho decorre com boa disposição e bom ambiente.
Encontrámos um ninho caído no chão com restos de pequenas cascas de ovos azuis. Perguntamo-nos a que espécie de ave poderá pertencer.
A Lola e a Estrellia estão a registar os indivíduos de acácia que foram sujeitos a debarking, de forma a obter uma ideia da densidade do povoamento e da sua evolução. Parâmetros como o diâmetro do tronco, o número de indivíduos e as dificuldades ou anomalias relacionadas com a casca são registados numa tabela.
Today, the team is made up of Juliana, Estrellia, Lola, Julien and Glycienne. We made good progress on the acacia plot, and the weather is starting to cool down. The working conditions are becoming more comfortable, and the work is carried out in a cheerful and friendly atmosphere.
We found a nest that had fallen to the ground with the remains of small blue eggshells. We wonder which bird species it could belong to.
Lola and Estrellia are recording the acacia individuals that have been debarked in order to get an idea of the stand density and its evolution. Parameters such as trunk diameter, the number of individuals, and any difficulties or anomalies related to the bark are recorded in a table.
Quarta-feira / Wednesday
Nesta quarta-feira, o tempo arrefeceu bastante. O Tarick regressou e a Glycienne ficou em casa.
Continuamos a trabalhar na mesma parcela e muito provavelmente terminá-la-emos no final da semana.
Depois deste dia de trabalho, a Juliana e os voluntários franceses partirão. Apenas a Lola e a Estrellia ficarão mais uma última noite nesta casa e poderão aproveitar o rio onde tanto gostam de nadar.
Gostámos muito desta pequena aldeia e dos seus habitantes, que são muito acolhedores!
This Wednesday, the weather became much cooler. Tarick came back and Glycienne stayed at the house.
We are still working on the same plot, and we will most likely finish it by the end of the week.
After this day’s work, Juliana and the French volunteers are leaving. Only Lola and Estrellia will stay one last night in this house and will be able to enjoy the river where they love swimming so much.
We really enjoyed this little village and its very welcoming inhabitants!
Quinta-feira / Thursday
Na quinta-feira, as peripécias começaram cedo para a Estrellia e a Lola… O táxi que as devia levar para o terreno deixou-as em plena cidade, mesmo em frente ao centro comercial!
Felizmente, o Guilherme resolveu rapidamente a situação e, desta vez, as raparigas foram deixadas na aldeia certa.
O dia passou muito depressa e, depois de fazerem o descasque de alguns acácias, as voluntárias francesas apanharam outro táxi e conheceram a Viviana, que fica com elas até ao dia seguinte.
De regresso à Casa do Lobo para passar uma noite, reencontrámos também o Guilherme, que já não víamos há algum tempo. Passámos um momento muito acolhedor.
On Thursday, the adventures started early this morning for Estrellia and Lola… The taxi that was supposed to take them to the field dropped them off in the middle of the city, right in front of the shopping centre !
Fortunately, everything was sorted out by Guilherme, and this time the girls were dropped off in the right village.
The day went by very quickly and, after debarking a few acacias, the French girls got into another taxi and met Viviana, who will be staying with them for a while.
Back at Casa do Lobo for one night, we also met up again with Guilherme, whom we had not seen for a while. We had a warm and enjoyable time together.
Sexta-feira / Friday
No último dia desta semana, partimos com nevoeiro.
Finalmente terminámos a parcela de acácias onde trabalhámos durante esta semana e começámos outra. A Viviana pôs imediatamente mãos à obra!
Depois de três semanas de ausência, estamos de regresso a Vouzela e esperamos ficar lá durante muito tempo. Esta pequena vila fez-nos muita falta!
For the last day of this week, we set off in the fog.
We finally finished the acacia plot where we had been working this week and started another one. Viviana immediately got involved and started helping!
After three weeks away, we are back in Vouzela and we hope to stay there for a long time. We really missed this little village!
