A Associação tem neste momento 430 sócios e gere 178 ha correspondentes a 25 propriedades no Centro de Portugal, tendo em vista a conservação da Natureza e a valorização da biodiversidade.
Retomámos cautelosamente as atividades da associação em junho, com algumas restrições devido à pandemia.
A gestão das propriedades de Cerdeirinha e Vermilhas continuou a avançar este mês, focada na condução da regeneração natural de carvalhos e sobreiros. Com o crescimento da vegetação nas áreas geridas, que acabam por cobrir as árvores destinadas à condução da regeneração, investimos também durante junho na abertura e manutenção de acessos para e nas propriedades.
No dia 13 de junho, estivemos em Levides, para um dia de voluntariado com foco na abertura de alguns acessos para permitir chegar aos carvalhos que se vão erguendo entre as giestas da propriedade. Estes carvalhos, onde se fez condução da regeneração natural selecionando varas mais fortes da árvore e retirando as restantes, serão os principais promotores da regeneração do carvalhal nesta propriedade, providenciando um banco de sementes. Recebeu-se nesse dia a visita de um jornalista da SIC Notícias que desenvolveu uma pequena notícia sobre o trabalho da associação. Poderão encontrar AQUI.
No fim-de-semana de 20 e 21 do mês, estivemos nas propriedades da MONTIS na Pampilhosa da Serra adquiridas pelo 4º crowdfunding da associação. A atividade de voluntariado foi focada principalmente na condução do pinhal da propriedade de Soalheira e remoção de alguma vegetação envolvente para a criação de uma descontinuidade vertical de matéria verde, e também na abertura de caminhos que nos permitam chegar ao fundo do vale da propriedade. Estes acessos não só vão permitir delinear melhor os limites da propriedade, como vão abrir novas opções de gestão e permitir-nos explorar melhor o que existe na área.
Juntámos ainda ao fim-de-semana, uma visita às duas propriedades de Penedo Alto em Pampilhosa da Serra, para averiguar a possibilidade de conjugar a conservação da biodiversidade com o aproveitamento de produtos dessa biodiversidade (por exemplo, medronho e mel) e à propriedade de Covões para ver que reconversão se poderia fazer do eucaliptal existente. E ainda houve tempo para uma observação de estrelas.
No último sábado de junho, dia 27, tivemos a Assembleia Geral da MONTIS em Vouzela, inicialmente prevista para março, mas que teve que ser adiada devido à pandemia.
Durante a manhã visitámos em conjunto com os sócios e interessados as mais recentes propriedades sob gestão da MONTIS: Levides e Picôto, ambas em Vouzela.
Discutiram-se as possibilidades de gestão nas duas propriedades, bastante diferentes ao nível de estado de vegetação. Em Picôto, analisou-se o potencial de condução da regeneração natural dos carvalhos que se vão encontrando na propriedade, e dos salgueiros localizados nas linhas de escorrência. Já para Levides, com um giestal instalado, tal como no baldio de Carvalhais, apesar de menos denso, falou-se na possibilidade de se fazer um fogo controlado na área para possibilitar a instalação da floresta autóctone.

Projeto LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES
No projeto LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES (ESC/PT/003) recebemos 2 novos voluntários internacionais, com as devidas precauções, Ophélia Barré, francesa e Mathias Van Severen, belga, e três novos voluntários portugueses, João Freitas, Pedro Sarmento e Tiago Silva. Este estará também a trabalhar no seu projeto de estágio a delinear os habitats e sucessões ecológicas na propriedade do baldio de Carvalhais. Estes voluntários em conjunto com os já envolvidos no projeto nos meses anteriores estarão a apoiar a gestão das propriedades.

O 1º colóquio da MONTIS de 2020, Bioblitz: com os olhos de todos, é já no dia 18 de julho, no Carvalhal de Vermilhas, e tem como objetivo divulgar a importância da participação e inclusão do cidadão na obtenção de informação sobre a biodiversidade, dando também destaque aos registos da biodiversidade nas áreas geridas pela MONTIS.

With the vegetation growth in the managed areas, that has started to cover the authoctonous trees, we have also invested during June in the opening and maintenance of accesses for and in the properties.

With the vegetation growth in the managed areas, that has started to cover the authoctonous trees, we have also invested during June in the opening and maintenance of accesses for and in the properties.
On June 13th, in Levides, we had a volunteering day focused on the opening of some accesses to some oaks that can be found between the brooms in the property. These oaks, on which we invested on supporting the natural regeneration by selecting the strongest branches and pruning the remaining ones, will be the ones promoting the regeneration of the oakland with their seed bank. We received on this day the visit of a national television jornalist that developed a small media new regarding the association work. More HERE
On the weekend of 20th and 21st of June, MONTIS organised a volunteering weekend in the properties of Pampilhosa da Serra adquired by the association last year with the 4º crowdfunding "Something enthrusted to us".
The activity was focused on the support of natural regeneration of pine trees in Soalheira property and removal of some surrounding vegetation to create a vertical discontinuity of green matter, and also the opening of accesses that will allow the passing until the end of the property valley. These accesses will not only allow to outline the limits of the property and also allow exploring better the area.
We joined yet to the volunteering weekend, a visit to the two properties of Penedo Alto in Pampilhosa da Serra, to investigate the possibility of combining the conservation of biodiversity with the use of products from this biodiversity (for example, arbutus and honey) and to the property of Covões to see which reconversion of the eucalyptus land could be done. And we still have time to do some stargazing.
On the last Saturday of June, day 27th, we had the General Assembly of MONTIS in Vouzela, initially scheduled for March, but that due to the pandemic had to be delayed.
During the morning we visited with the association members and interested to the newest properties under MONTIS management: Levides and Picôto, both in Vouzela.

In Levides, with the broom land, like in baldio de Carvalhais, was discussed the possibility to make a prescribed fire in the area to allow the installation of the autochthonous forest.

In the Project LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES (ESC/PT/003) we received 2 new international volunteers, with precautions, Ophélia Barré, from France and Mathias Van Severen, from Belgium, and three new portuguese volunteers, João Freitas, Pedro Sarmento and Tiago Silva. Tiago will also be working on his internship project to outline the habitats and ecological sucessions in baldio de Carvlahais. These volunteers together with the ones already involved in the project will support the management of properties.
The LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES project (ESC / PT / 003) aims to involve young people between 18 and 30 years old in nature conservation, offering a variety of volunteers in this area through nine national partners. There will still be vacancies until the end of the year in several of the nine partners.
