Abaixo fazemos um balanço do ano que passou e apresentamos já alguma da programação para 2024, que vai receber os 10 anos da MONTIS / Below we make a balance of last year and present some of the programming for 2024, that will include the 10th aniversary of MONTIS.
Terminámos o ano com a campanha “Traz outro amigo também” em que pedimos que divulguem a MONTIS, e o que fazemos, junto de amigos e familiares. Gostávamos de aumentar o número atual de sócios (412 no fim de 2023).
Em 2023 as atividades da MONTIS foram de consolidação e renovação.
Os novos órgãos sociais tomaram posse no dia 2 de janeiro, a equipa técnica foi alargada (de 1 + 1/2 para 3 + 1/2), aumentámos consideravelmente a área que gerimos (de 187,5 para 300 ha; de 28 para 35 propriedades), estabelecemos novas parcerias (CM de Mafra e de Pampilhosa da Serra, JF de Fajão-Vidual e da Malveira, EDP Produção, Parcours le Monde, CAP) e reforçámos as existentes.
Ao nível da atividade no terreno fizemos 9 voluntariados mensais (60 voluntários), 6 voluntariados corporativos (119 pessoas), 2 voluntariados académicos (26 pessoas) e tivemos 24 voluntários de média/longa duração nos terrenos (MAGIS, CTI, VJNF, Parcours le Monde, outros…). Foram registadas 73 espécies nas propriedades da MONTIS (ver Inaturalist). E ainda organizámos 12 passeios mensais (177 participantes).
As atividades incidiram principalmente em controlo de espécies invasoras, plantações e limpezas de matos para criação de mosaico, incluindo através de um fogo controlado no baldio de Carvalhais. Concretizámos também o corte dos eucaliptais de Cabril (Pampilhosa da Serra), dando sequência aos objetivos do crowdfunding “Do Eucaliptal até à Mata” (mais aqui).
Em 2024 assinalamos os 10 anos da MONTIS, com um conjunto grande de atividades que terão início em março - oficina de Avifauna, Bioblitz, Voluntariados diversos, atividades com escolas e ainda a Assembleia Geral - e, depois, com uma conferência internacional que terá lugar no início de abril. Brevemente lançaremos a programação: estejam atentos!
No início de dezembro a equipa e a voluntária Léa deram início às plantações em Covões, em Pampilhosa da Serra. A atividade estava prevista para o voluntariado mensal mas não houve inscritos. Saiba mais aqui.
No passeio mensal, dia 16, fomos à pateira de Fermentelos, onde pudemos observar muitas aves aquáticas, mas também muitos jacintos de água, uma invasora aquática que domina a pateira, e ainda às margens do rio Águeda. Contamos tudo aqui.
Ainda no fim de semana de 16 e 17 decorreu, no baldio de Carvalhais, o voluntariado académico VO.U pela Natureza: 11 jovens universitários fizeram limpeza de matos e plantaram 254 árvores e arbustos. Saibam aqui como correu.

No âmbito do protocolo com a 1% for the Planet France / Caudalie, que prevê a plantação de 11 765 árvores na época 2023/2024, a MONTIS começou já as plantações no baldio de Carvalhais, Levides, Malveira e Covões. Iniciou também a substituição das árvores plantadas, no âmbito do protocolo anterior, e que não sobreviveram ao verão e outono.
Entregámos à EDP Produção a proposta de Modelo de Gestão para as propriedades desta entidade em Santa Luzia (Pampilhosa da Serra).
Submetemos também candidaturas para dois Campos de Trabalho Internacionais, a realizar este verão, e para o Selo de Qualidade do European Solidarity Corps, que nos permitirá receber voluntários de longa duração (nacionais e internacionais).
No âmbito do projeto LIFE ENPLC a MONTIS completou já todos os milestones propostos e todos os entregáveis.

Balance of 2023
We ended the year with the “Bring also another friend” campaign in which we ask you to spread the word about MONTIS, and what we do, to friends and family. We would like to increase the current number of members (412 at the end of 2023).
In 2023 MONTIS' activities were one of consolidation and renewal.
The new governing bodies took office on January 2nd, the technical team was expanded (from 1 + 1/2 to 3 + 1/2), we considerably increased the area we manage (from 187.5 to 300 ha; from 28 to 35 properties), we established new partnerships (CM de Mafra and Pampilhosa da Serra, JF de Fajão-Vidual and Malveira, EDP Produção, Parcours le Monde, CAP) and reinforced existing ones.
In terms of activity on the ground, we did 9 monthly volunteers (60 volunteers), 6 corporate volunteers (119 people), 2 academic volunteers (26 people) and we had 24 medium/long-term volunteers on the field (MAGIS, CTI, VJNF, Parcours le Monde, others…). There were 73 species registered in MONTIS project on Inaturalist. And we also organized 12 monthly walks (177 participants).
The activities mainly focused on controlling invasive species, planting and clearing bushes to create a mosaic, including through controlled fire in the commons of Carvalhais. We also completed the cutting of the eucalyptus trees in Cabril (Pampilhosa da Serra), continuing the objectives of the crowdfunding “Do Eucaliptal até à Mata” (more here).
In 2024 we will mark 10 years of MONTIS, with a large set of activities that will begin in March - Avifauna workshop, Bioblitz, various Volunteers, activities with schools and also the General Assembly - and, afterwards, with an international conference that will take place in early April. We will soon launch the schedule: stay tuned!

On the monthly walk, on the 16th, we went to Pateira de Fermentelos, where we were able to observe many water birds, but also many water hyacinths, an aquatic invasive that dominates the pateira, and also on the banks of the Águeda river. We tell you everything here.

Balance of MONTIS projects and financing
As part of the protocol with 1% for the Planet France / Caudalie, which foresees the planting of 11,765 trees in the 2023/2024 season, MONTIS has already started planting in the commons of Carvalhais, Levides, Malveira and Covões. It also began replacing the trees planted, within the scope of the previous protocol, and which did not survive the summer and autumn.
We delivered to EDP Produção the Management Model proposal for this entity's properties in Santa Luzia (Pampilhosa da Serra).
We also submited applications for two International Work Camps, to be held this summer, and for the European Solidarity Corps Quality Seal, which will allow us to receive long-term volunteers (national and international).
Within the scope of the LIFE ENPLC project, MONTIS has already completed all proposed milestones and all deliverables.
