Os voluntários do projeto ENVIE (Parcours le Monde), Léa, Leny e Yoan, terminaram no dia 30 de novembro o seu período de voluntariado com a MONTIS.
Depois de três meses, a apoiar a MONTIS na gestão dos terrenos e organização de atividades, a Léa e o Yoan deixam aqui o testemunho da sua experiência. Infelizmente, o Leny teve o azar de partir de um dedo do pé no início do seu voluntariado, o que limitou muito a sua experiência durante os três meses, e por isso ele decidiu não a partilhar.

Léa:
A minha experiência na MONTIS em Portugal.
É uma associação muito interessante onde aprendi muitas coisas, como plantar, descascar acácias, podar carvalhos e fazer caixas-ninho.
Não estava à espera disso quando vim para cá - originalmente eu ia fazer trabalho design gráfico, mas tudo o que fiz foi trabalhar no terreno.
Mas não foi mau, apesar de ser difícil e físico porque não sou desportiva, acabei por descobrir muitas coisas :)
Os meus dias favoritos foram quando fomos à Serra da Estrela com a Lúcia, e o dia dos cogumelos com o João! Adorei os dias com a Inês também, ela foi a primeira a explicar-nos tudo, o que foi fantástico!
Na Serra da Estrela o objetivo era reconhecer um trilho ao longo do rio para uma atividade futura com voluntários e ainda recolher sementes de algumas espécies. O tempo estava fantástico e havia cascatas em todo o lado - foi incrível! Descemos todo o trilho até ao rio e depois foi difícil para mim para voltar a subir, por isso a Lúcia e o Yoan foram buscar a carrinha e eu pude visitar o fundo do vale sozinha e encontrar alguns agricultores e as suas vacas e cães ahah!
O meu segundo dia favorito foi quando fizemos a atividade dos cogumelos organizada em parceria com o município de Vouzela. Foi um dia muito bom e calmo. Cada um de nós apanhou os cogumelos que encontrou e mostrou ao especialista para perguntar se eram comestíveis ou não. A atividade foi em português mas felizmente para a Léa (outra voluntária francesa) e eu, o João foi traduzindo para inglês! Depois do passeio foi oferecido um piquenique com bom queijo e vinho branco! E o especialista cozinhou os cogumelos comestíveis para provarmos - foi uma experiência muito convivial.
"My experience at Montis in Portugal.
It's a very interesting association where I've learnt lots of things, like planting, debarking acacias, pruning oaks and making birdhouses.
I wasn't expecting that when I came here - I was originally going to do graphic/design, but all I've done is work in the field.
But that's OK, even though it was hard and physical because I'm not at all sporty, I still discovered lots of things. :)
My favourite days were when we went to Serra da Estrela with Lucia and the mushroom day with Joao! I loved the days with Ines too, she was the first to explain everything to us, which was great!
At Serra da Estrela the aim of the day was to preview a path along a river for a future day with volunteers and also to collect seeds of certain species. The weather was great and there were waterfalls everywhere - it was incredible! So we walked all the way down the river and then it was too difficult for me to get back up, so Lucia and Yoan went and got the car to come and get me and I was able to visit the bottom of the valley on my own and discover some farmers with their cows and dogs ahah!
My second favourite day was when we did the mushroom day organised by the Vouzela municipality in partnership with Montis. It was very nice and very calm. We each picked the mushrooms we found and we could show them to the expert who was there with us to ask him if they were edible or not. The activity was in Portuguese, but fortunately for Léa (another French volunteer) and me; Joao was able to translate into English! After the walk we were treated to a buffet with good cheese and white wine! And the expert cooked the edible mushrooms for us all to taste - it was a really convivial experience."
Yoan:
A MONTIS é uma associação dedicada a restaurar a biodiversidade das florestas em Portugal. Nesta associação, consegui aprender muitas coisas sobre espécies e métodos de gestão das florestas.
Descascámos acácias, podámos carvalhos para melhorar o crescimento, plantámos e calculámos taxas de sobrevivência de plantações anteriores, e construímos caixas-ninho.
Algumas tarefas que fizemos não eram divertidas como limpar a carrinha e a garagem, mas é importante ser organizado e isso faz parte do trabalho.
E às vezes o trabalho foi um bocado físico (mas mantém-nos em forma ;)).
Os meus momentos favoritos foram quando fomos à Serra da Estrela, e provavelmente os piqueniques que fizemos nas montanhas.
Na Serra da Estrela a nossa tarefa era reconhecer o local para preparar a atividade com voluntários. No caminho recolhemos muitas sementes para plantar. O Leny acompanhou-nos apesar da fratura dele e passou o tempo a apanhar banhos de sol, enquanto a Léa estava tão cansada que tivemos que a apanhar com a carrinha.
Os técnicos da MONTIS também eram engraçados. Por exemplo, podíamos jogar xadrez com a Inês, jogar jogos de tabuleiro com o João (e basquetebol mas não tivemos tempo) ou praticar falar português com a Lúcia.
"Montis is an association dedicated to restoring Portugal's forests to their former biodiversity. Within this association, I was able to learn many things, both about species and forest maintenance methods.
We debark acacias, pruned oaks for better growth, planted and calculated species survival rates, and built birdhouses.
Some of the missions that we did were not this fun like cleaning the van and the garage, but it’s important to be organized and it’s a part of the work.
Also it was sometimes a bit physical (but it keeps you in shape ;) ).
My favorite moments were the time we went to Serra da Estrela, and probably most of the picnics in the mountains.
At Serra da Estrela our mission was to visualize the site in preparation for an activity with volunteers. On the way we collected a bunch of seeds to plant. Leny accompanied us despite her fracture and spent his time sunbathing, while Léa was so tired we had to pick her up by car.
The workers of Montis were also funny. You can for exemple play chess with Inès, play board games with João (and also basketball but we didn’t take the time) or practice speaking Portuguese with Lucia."
