Observações / Remarks :
Uma vez que a área de intervenção inicial era demasiado rochosa e o ritmo de plantação demasiado lento, dedicámos a nossa segunda-feira a encontrar novas áreas de plantação dentro da propriedade: fizemos um caminho desde o topo da nossa área inicial até ao limite superior da propriedade (caminho vermelho no mapa acima). No topo da propriedade, existem algumas áreas que já foram plantadas nos últimos anos, mas também muitas áreas potenciais para novas plantações, sem rochas, e é aqui que vamos concentrar os nossos esforços nas próximas semanas. Também descobrimos um novo caminho que vamos utilizar para chegar à parte superior da propriedade (magenta no mapa acima).
Since the initial area of intervention was way too rocky and the rythm of planting too slow, we dedicated our Monday to finding new areas of planting within the property: we made a path from the top of our initial area to the top border of the property (red path on the map above). At the top of the property, there are a few areas that have already been planted in the past few years, but also a lot of potential areas for new plantations, without rocks, and this is where we are going to concentrate our efforts for the next few weeks. We’ve also discovered a new path that we are going to use to go to the upper part of the property (magenta on the map above).
Na terça-feira, o Youn chegou de Angers, França. Ele vai estar cá para trabalhar com MONTIS durante dois meses. Plantámos árvores durante a tarde e o Youn teve a oportunidade de aprender as técnicas de plantação e de limpeza, bem como o enquadramento dos trabalhos realizados na propriedade. Descobriu também os Pastéis de Nata na pastelaria de Carvalhais quando voltámos do terreno, que ele apreciou depois do seu primeiro dia de trabalho de campo.
On Tuesday, Youn arrived from Angers, France. He is here to work with Montis for 2 months. We planted trees in the afternoon and Youn had the opportunity to learn the planting and cleaning techniques, as well as the background of the property. He also discovered Pastéis de Nata at the pastry of Carvalhais when we came back from the mountain, which he enjoyed after his first day of working in the field.
Na quarta-feira, fomos a uma propriedade da MONTIS em Pampilhosa da Serra, onde controlámos a rebentação dos eucaliptos durante o dia com uma equipa grande e motivada: Henrique, Inês, Youn, Cedric, Gabriel e Hugo. As varas dos eucaliptos que controlámos rebentaram das raízes de eucaliptos que foram cortados. Este controlo deve ser efetuado pelo menos 3 vezes para que as raízes do eucalipto morram e para que a área fique finalmente livre de eucaliptos. No final do dia, com o drone, tivemos uma óptima vista da área e ficámos contentes por ver que controlámos uma grande área de eucaliptos num só dia! E o cheiro das folhas dos eucaliptos era bom, e o tempo estava soalheiro! Maravilhoso!
On Wednesday, we went to a MONTIS property in Pampilhosa da Serra, where we controlled eucalyptus sprouting for the day with a big and motivated team: Henrique, Ines, Youn, Cedric, Gabriel, Hugo. The eucalyptus we controlled sprouted from eucalyptus roots that were cutted. This control must be made at least 3 times for the eucalyptus roots to die and for the area to finally get rid of eucalyptus. We had great views of the area with the drone at the end of the day, and we were happy to see that we controlled quite a great area of eucalyptus in just one day! And the smell of the leaves was good, and the weather sunny! Wonderful!
Continuámos a plantar nas novas parcelas do Baldio de Carvalhais durante quinta-feira e sexta-feira, a um ritmo muito superior ao anterior. Foi ótimo. Sexta-feira foi o nosso primeiro dia efetivo de plantação na nova área, e podemos verificar que é muito mais fácil e rápido plantar lá. Conseguimos obter um ritmo de 5 plantas/hora/voluntário neste primeiro dia de plantação na nova área.
We continued planting on our new spots in Baldio de Carvalhais during Thursday and Friday, at a way greater pace than before. It felt great. Friday was our first real day of planting in the new area, and we can see that it is way easier and faster to plant there. We managed to get a rhythm of 5 plants/hour/volunteer on this first day of planting in the new area.
