Segunda-feira / Monday
On Monday, we started a little later because Veronica and Flora were coming from vaccations. Another volunteer worked with us on Monday; her name is Maria João. We continued the safety strip from last week, made it past the 90-degree curve, and now we are heading towards the road. The finish is in sight! On the way back to collect the acorns, we timed it and found out that the right-hand path at an intersection is about 3 minutes faster than the left one. Important information! To finish up, we went acorn gathering—more than ever before. When 7 people are collecting, a huge amount comes together. Hopefully, we can finish the strip this week.
Terça-feira / Tuesday
On Tuesday, we continued working on the secure path around the prescribed burning area, this time without Maria and Guilherme. Instead, Francisco joined us. Three of us worked ahead to remove big sticks and coarse debris left from the day before. The other three cleared the path down to the mineral soil. After that, we spread the huge amount of acorns—which we had gathered the day before—around the prescribed burning area. Then, Francisco took us to the Bioparque to collect new acorns. From there, we ended our day and walked home.
Quarta-feira / Wednesday
On Wednesday, we finished the firebreak. Following that, we distributed the acorns along the waterline. After lunch, we collected more acorns. At the end of the day, we showed Maria how to debark acacia trees in the park of the Common where we usually pick the seeds.
Later, we went to another spot to collect a different type of acorn (cork oak). After filling three large bags, our workday came to an end.
Quinta-feira / Thursday
Thursday we first collected acorns but from a different sort, the one that we started yesterday: cork oak acorns. There are acorns of cork oaks. Also we stopped there in order to Guilherme explaining us something about the weekly report.
After that we drove uphill to manage vegetation in prescribed burn area to keep some trees safe from the future burn due to youngness. We finish spreading the acorns that we picked on that day and the day before.
Tomorrow we will be in holidays, ihihi, see you next week!
