A MONTIS tem neste momento 454 sócios e gere 178 ha correspondentes a 25 propriedades no Centro de Portugal, tendo em vista a conservação da natureza e a valorização da biodiversidade.
Entre o final de dezembro e início de janeiro abriram-se as faixas de contenção/proteção para a realização de um novo fogo controlado numa parcela, com cerca de 20ha, que já tinha sido alvo deste tipo de intervenção em 2017. Esta parcela, faz parte de uma área mais vasta de terreno, situada no baldio de Carvalhais e que está sob a gestão da MONTIS.
Durante a preparação para a realização do segundo fogo controlado, foram definidas zonas de proteção onde se encontravam algumas das plantações e sementeiras feitas pós incêndio de 2017, tendo-se por essa razão queimado apenas 14 há da faixa inicial. Este segundo fogo, realizou-se no dia 12 de janeiro.
A realização desta atividade teve como objetivo o controlo de crescimento de matos e combustíveis finos, permitindo a criação de novos habitats e favorecendo o crescimento dos carvalhos de forma mais rápida e vigorosa.
No dia seguinte ao fogo, por sugestão do sócio Ivan Sellers, foram realizadas sementeiras e plantações de carvalho em algumas das zonas ardidas partindo do pressuposto que o cheiro intenso a queimado poderá manter afastados os javalis e outros animais que são atraídos pelas sementes e plantações.
Durante o mês de janeiro teve início a época de plantações de 2020/2021. Pretende-se, durante esta época, plantar 7691 árvores correspondentes à reposição das árvores dos protocolos dos anos anteriores com a MOSSY EARTH.

Devido às medidas de confinamento decretadas face à pandemia de SARS-Covid-19, as atividades previstas para janeiro (9 voluntariado no baldio de Carvalhais, e passeio às Salinas do Samouco) foram, por agora, canceladas.
No dia 30 tivemos o primeiro de alguns webinares que a MONTIS estará a organizar durante as próximas semanas dedicados a dar a conhecer o trabalho realizado pelos estagiários que passaram na associação até agora e que desenvolveram projectos nas propriedades sob gestão. A Maria João e o Manuel, estagiários em 2020 e 2018, respetivamente, desenvolveram uma metodologia de avaliação da evolução da paisagem. Podem ver o webinar completo AQUI.
Projeto LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES
Integraram, durante este mês, a equipa de voluntários do projeto LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES (LIFE17 ESC/PT/003), 6 voluntários: a Lisa Borella, italiana; o Tiago Brandão e o Rogério Ponte, portugueses; a Marie Cousin e a Laura Debuy, francesas e o Panagiotis Georgiou, Cipriano. Terminaram a sua atividade como voluntários na MONTIS, o Hugo Silva e da Paula Brauer.
Neste momento a equipa de voluntários que está na associação é constituída por 13 elementos, estando envolvidos em atividades de gestão nas nossas propriedades ou nas propriedades sob a nossa gestão. É de salientar que se encontra uma equipa de 9 voluntários em Cabril, Pampilhosa da Serra que irá dar apoio na abertura de novos acessos às propriedades de Covões e Barroco Frio e que, a partir de fevereiro, irá fazer o levantamento dos clusters de biodiversidade que podem ser identificados por debaixo das linhas da EDP-Distribuição.
As candidaturas para fazer parte do projeto continuam abertas, procuramos jovens dos 18 aos 30 anos com disponibilidade, pelo menos, para 2 meses, que se queiram juntar a nós e dar uma mão à natureza. Mais informações/candidaturas: lifevolunteerescapes.org / volunteer.escapes@gmail.com

Para além dos projetos de voluntariado no terreno, continuamos também à procura de quem nos possa apoiar em tarefas de voluntariado menos físicas, por exemplo relacionadas com candidaturas, procura de financiamentos, etc.. English summary
MONTIS has at the moment 454 members and manages 178 ha of land corresponding to 25 properties in Central Portugal, for nature conservation and biodiversity valorization.
Between the end of December and the beginning of January, we opened the containment / protection paths for the realization of a new prescribed fire in a plot, with about 20ha, which had already been the target of this type of intervention in 2017. This plot, makes part of a wider area of land, located in Baldio de Carvalhais and which is under the management of MONTIS.
During the preparation for the second prescribed fire, protection zones were defined where some of the plantations and seedlings made after the 2017 fire were located, for which reason only 14 ha of the initial range were burned. This second fire took place on January 12th.
The purpose of this activity was to control the growth of brush and fine fuels, allowing the creation of new habitats and favouring the growth of oak trees more quickly and vigorously.
The day after the fire, at the suggestion of MONTIS' member Ivan Sellers, sowing and planting of oak were carried out in some of the burnt areas, assuming that the intense smell of burning can keep wild boars and other animals that are attracted by seeds and plantations away.
During the month of January the 2020/2021 planting season began. It is intended, during this time, to plant 7691 trees corresponding to the replacement of the trees of the previous years' protocols with MOSSY EARTH.

Due to the confinement measures enacted in the face of the SARS-Covid-19 pandemic, the activities scheduled for January (9 volunteering at Baldio de Carvalhais, and tour to the Salinas do Samouco) have, for now, been cancelled.
On the 30th, we had the first of a few webinars that MONTIS will be organizing during the next weeks dedicated to publicizing the work done by the interns who have worked at the association so far and who have developed projects on the properties under management. Maria João and Manuel, interns in 2020 and 2018, respectively, developed a methodology for assessing landscape evolution. You can see the full webinar HERE.
Project LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES
During this month, the team of volunteers from the LIFE VOLUNTEER ESCAPES project (LIFE17 ESC / PT / 003), received 6 new volunteers: Lisa Borella, Italian; Tiago Brandão and Rogério Ponte, Portuguese; Marie Cousin and Laura Debuy, French and Panagiotis Georgiou, Cipriano. At this moment, the team of volunteers in the association is made up of 13 members, being involved in management activities on our properties or on the properties under our management. It should be noted that there is a team of 9 volunteers in Cabril, Pampilhosa da Serra that will support the opening of new accesses to the properties of Covões and Barroco Frio and that, from February, will survey the biodiversity clusters can be identified under the EDP-Distribuição lines.

Other support
